Felix The Huddersfield Staion Cat

It is with heavy hearts but fond memories that we bid farewell to Felix the Huddersfield Station Cat, who passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023, after a brave battle with a terminal illness. Felix, a charming tuxedo cat, was not just a pest controller but an integral part of the station’s soul, touching the lives of staff, commuters, and visitors alike.

Born on May 17, 2011, Felix joined the Huddersfield Station as a pest control officer. However, her role quickly transcended beyond its original scope. Felix was a furry ambassador of Huddersfield, bringing joy and warmth to the bustling environment of the station. Her playful antics and soothing presence became a source of comfort and amusement for many.

During her twelve years at the station, Felix earned a legion of admirers. Her mischievous glint and endearing personality were not just confined to the perimeters of Huddersfield; they reached hearts globally, making her a worldwide sensation. Her partnership with Bolt, another station cat, further added to the charm and allure of the station, making it a unique and welcoming place.

Felix’s impact was profound. She was more than a cat; she was a symbol of community, bringing together people from all walks of life. Her presence was a reminder of the simple joys and the unspoken bond we share with our animal companions. Felix’s legacy will live on through the countless stories and memories shared by those who had the pleasure of crossing paths with her.

As we remember Felix, we celebrate a life that, although brief, was rich in love and affection. Her spirit will continue to roam the corridors of Huddersfield Station, a comforting and familiar presence in the hearts of all she touched.

Felix, you were more than just a station cat; you were a friend, a companion, and a cherished member of the Huddersfield family. Your paw prints will forever be etched in our hearts.

Rest in peace, Felix. Your memory will always be a beacon of joy and warmth at Huddersfield Station.

Felix’s “Pub O’Clock” Announcements: A Lighthearted Legacy at Huddersfield Station

Every Friday at precisely 4:00 PM, Huddersfield Station transformed from a bustling hub of commuters into a scene of whimsical anticipation, all thanks to Felix, the station’s charismatic feline. As the clock struck four, Felix, the unofficial timekeeper, signaled the much-awaited “Pub O’Clock,” a delightful tradition that marked the start of the weekend for many of the station staff. It was her way of saying, “The workweek is over, let’s welcome the weekend!”

Imagine the scene: travelers hurrying to catch their trains, the intercom crackling with announcements, and amidst all this, Felix perched regally on her favorite ledge, overseeing the station’s activities with a discerning eye. As the minute hand inched towards the hour, a ripple of excitement would pass among the staff. It was as if Felix, with her keen feline senses, could tell the time better than any clock.

Just a cat’s whisker away from the station, The Head of Steam pub, a traditional establishment with a rich selection of local craft beers and real ales, awaited the staff. Located conveniently with direct entrances from Platform 1 and St. George’s Square, this popular watering hole was the perfect destination to unwind after a week’s work.

Felix’s “Pub O’Clock” announcement was more than just a humorous end-of-week signal; it was a testament to her unique place in the heart of the station community. It embodied the spirit of camaraderie and relaxation, a reminder that amidst our busy lives, there’s always time for a little fun and a good pint.

As patrons enjoyed their drinks, relishing perfectly cooked fish&chips or meat pies, and tapping their feet to live music in the evenings, there was always a fond mention of Felix, the cat who knew how to kick off the weekend in style.

In memory of Felix, every Friday at 4:00 PM, a gentle murmur still runs through the station, a nostalgic nod to the cat who once reigned supreme over Huddersfield Station, reminding everyone that it’s time to head next door to The Head of Steam, to raise a glass in her honor.
